Is Keepsafe safe?
Updated · By THEORIST LLC, the company that makes Hushtrove
Keepsafe says it encrypts photos and videos with 256-bit AES as soon as they're added, opens the vault with a PIN, pattern, fingerprint or Face ID, and backs up to its own cloud, linked to an account with a verified email S1 S2. Its App Store privacy label says usage data may be used to track you, and its privacy policy describes interest-based advertising in the ad-supported version, analytics and session-replay tools S3 S4. Whether that is safe enough depends on what you're protecting against; below is what Keepsafe itself states, with links and dates.
We make Hushtrove, another photo vault, so we have an interest here. This page therefore uses only Keepsafe's own words: its App Store listing, its privacy policy and its help center, all read on 2026-10-28. We haven't tested Keepsafe, and we don't speculate about anything it doesn't say.
What the App Store privacy label says
Developers declare these labels to Apple; Apple notes they are not verified. For Keepsafe (version 13.35.0) S3:
| Category | Data types | Purposes listed |
|---|---|---|
| Data Used to Track You | Usage Data | Across apps and websites owned by other companies |
| Data Not Linked to You | Usage Data, including Advertising Data | Third-Party Advertising |
The label doesn't list photos, contact info or identifiers as collected.
What the privacy policy says
Keepsafe's privacy policy, last updated February 25, 2026, covers its website and its mobile apps together, so not every item applies to the vault app S4. It says Keepsafe collects or may collect:
- Account details: name, email address, username and password, and "account content" such as photos and videos stored in the service.
- Device and activity data logged automatically: app version, operating system, IP address, "unique device, application or advertising identifiers", features used, and approximate or (with permission) precise location.
- Tracking technologies, including cookies, web beacons and "session-replay technologies" that record clicks, "mobile app touches" and scrolls to diagnose usability problems.
On use and sharing, the policy says:
- In an ad-supported version, Keepsafe "and our third-party advertising partners" may collect information to "serve you online ads tailored to your interests in the Service and elsewhere".
- It uses Google Analytics "to help us understand user activity".
- It may share personal information with service providers, advertising partners, affiliates, professional advisors, authorities when required by law, and parties to a merger or sale.
- Deleted information "may remain for a period of time in our backup files".
- On security, it says risk "is inherent in all information technology" and that it can't promise absolute security, a statement most privacy policies make.
Keepsafe's policies page summarises its principles: "Unless you ask us to, we don't look at your photos, videos, passwords or anything else on your device", ads are shown "only from trusted companies" and "are not displayed for Premium customers" S5.
What the help center says about encryption and backup
- Encryption: files are "immediately protected using the industry-standard 256-bit AES encryption" and "encrypted at rest" S1.
- Backup: Keepsafe "creates encrypted backups": the first 200 items for free accounts, up to 10,000 with Premium S1, and 100,000 with the Lifetime plan S6. The help center strongly encourages keeping backup on, because without it a lost phone means lost photos.
- Who can see backups: "Keepsafe has no system IT admins or employees that can access or view your content" S7. The pages we read don't describe the backup as end-to-end encrypted, and don't say who holds the backup keys.
- Forgotten PIN: you reset it with an access code sent to your account email S1. So the security of that email account matters for the vault too.
Questions to answer for yourself
- Are you comfortable with an account and email linked to your vault? Keepsafe needs one S2.
- Do you mind usage data being used for tracking and advertising in the free version? Premium removes ads S8.
- Is your email account well protected? It's the recovery path for your PIN.
- Do you need Android, or a backup that doesn't use your iCloud storage? Keepsafe offers both S3 S1.
